Archery Hunting For Deer At Loch Raven Reservoir
To Begin Sept. 15 - Hunters Can Register Online

A 1,600-acre designated section of the Loch Raven Reservoir watershed will be open for archery hunting of white-tailed deer from September 15, 2008 through January 31, 2009. Archery hunters wanting to access Loch Raven Reservoir must obtain and complete a Loch Raven Reservoir Deer Bow Hunting Permit 2008-2009 form. The permit, rules and regulations, a map of the Loch Raven Reservoir bow hunting area boundaries and parking locations are available online at http://www.dnr.maryland.gov/huntersguide/lnp.asp and at the Gwynnbrook Wildlife and Heritage Service Managed Hunt Permit Office located at 3740 Gwynnbrook Avenue in Owings Mills, Md. The Managed Hunt Permit Office operates Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Annapolis Licensing and Registration Service Center
This Licensing and Registration Service Center has moved from the Tawes State Office Building to 1804 West Street in Annapolis. See DNR Service Centers.

Sunday Hunting
Legislation passed during the 2008 session of the General Assembly now allows for additional Sunday hunting on private lands in Washington County and has opened certain Sundays to deer hunting on private land in Harford County.  See Deer Management Region B

Waterfowl
A permit is now required to release captive-raised mallards in Maryland. See Migratory Game Bird Regulations

Wild Turkeys
Crossbows are now a legal weapon for hunting turkeys during both the fall and spring seasons.  See Forest Game.

Eastern Cottontail Rabbit
The hunting season for rabbits has been extended approximately two weeks. See Furbearers

Fishers
The bag limit and possession limit has been increased to 2 per year.  See Furbearers

River Otters
The bag limit and possession limit has been increased to 2 per year in Carroll, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery and Washington counties and to 10 per year in all other counties except Garrett and Allegany where the river otter season remains closed.  See Furbearers

Deer
There is now a separate bag limit for the Junior Hunt Day for deer.  See Deer Management Region B & Region A.

The length of the Antlered or Antlerless segment of the Region A Firearms Season has been increased to 2 days for private land only.  See Deer Management  Region A.

The bag limit for antlerless deer that can be taken on public lands in Region A was reduced to a total of 2 antlerless deer for all hunting seasons combined excluding the Junior Hunter Day. See Deer Management Region A.

Crossbows are now a legal weapon during the entire Bow Season in the Suburban Deer Archery Zone (Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties).  See Firearms, Bow and Falconry Regulations.

Fluorescent Orange
People who are required to wear fluorescent orange that are using certain ground blinds must meet new florescent orange requirements.

New Hunting Areas Opened
Mattawoman Natural Environmental Area in Charles County now has two tracts open to public hunting.

Prather’s Neck Wildlife Management Area in Washington County is now open to public hunting.
