Note:  (1) Shooting hours are one-half hour before sunrise to sunset. All dates are inclusive. No possession limit for snow geese; for all other waterfowl, the possession limit is twice the daily bag limit; (2) Waterfowl hunting is closed on Sundays in Maryland by federal regulation to compensate for the prohibition of hunting on Sundays by Maryland law; (3) No open season for canvasback, harlequin duck, and swans.

DUCKS, COOTS, and MERGANSERS

Black Duck

Duck Daily Bag and Possession Limits: 6 ducks (including mergansers) per day which may include no more than: 5 long-tailed ducks, 4 scoters, 4 mallards (max. 2 hen mallards), 3 wood ducks, 2 redheads, 2 hooded mergansers, 1 pintail, 1 fulvous tree duck, 1 mottled duck, 1 black duck (during black duck season), 1 scaup per day during Oct. 18 - Oct. 25, Nov. 8 - Nov. 28, and Dec. 16 - Jan. 1; and 2 scaup per day during Jan. 2 - Jan. 24.  In addition to the duck bag limit, hunters may take 15 coots per day.

No open season for canvasback and harlequin ducks.


SEA DUCKS (Scoters, Long-tailed Duck, and Eiders)

NATIONAL YOUTH WATERFOWL HUNTING DAY

Daily Bag and Possession Limits: 2 Canada geese*, 15 light geese**, 3 brant, 15 coot, and 6 ducks (including mergansers) per day which may include no more than: 5 long-tailed ducks, 4 scoters, 4 mallards (max. 2 hen mallards), 3 wood ducks, 2 redheads, 2 scaup, 2 hooded mergansers, 1 pintail, 1 black duck, 1 fulvous tree duck, and 1 mottled duck. No open season for canvasback, harlequin duck, and swans.

*The Canada goose daily bag limit may include Canada geese, cackling geese, and white-fronted geese singly or in aggregate.

**The light goose daily bag limit may include greater snow geese, lesser snow geese, and Ross’s geese singly or in aggregate.

Hunters 15 years of age or younger may participate in the National Youth Waterfowl Hunting Day if the individual possesses a valid hunting license or is exempt from Maryland hunting license requirements. The individual must possess a Maryland Migratory Game Bird Stamp, and must be accompanied in the field by an individual who:

  • Is 21 years old or older.

  • Possesses a valid Maryland hunting license, or is exempt from hunting license requirements.

  • Is not afield with a firearm, bow or other hunting device.
