DNR Congratulates Scott Jasion
“Hero of Conservation” is “Warrior for Woodies” Harford County Ducks Unlimited member and Maryland Wood Duck Initiative (MWDI) volunteer Scott Jasion of Fallston has been named a “Hero of Conservation” by Field & Stream magazine. Scott is actively involved in the Harford County Wood Duck Project, building, installing, gathering statistics, and maintaining 80 Wood Duck nesting boxes in Harford County, primarily in the Days Cove area of the Gunpowder Falls State Park, but also Deer Creek, and the Susquehanna River. Maryland DNR is an active partner in MWDI.

Ask an Expert: What is an Aquifer?
An aquifer is a body of rock or sediment that stores and transmits large amounts of groundwater. An aquifer typically consists of sands and gravels with interconnected pore spaces, or rocks with numerous interconnected fractures or cavities. Groundwater flows through these pore spaces and fractures, and the amount and rate of water flow is determined by the size and “connectedness” of the fractures and spaces. Learn more

NRP Open House at Echo Lake Area Office
Friday, August 22nd - 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come celebrate the dedication of the Maryland Natural Resource Police's Echo Lake Area Office, 2011 Monument Road in Myersville (Frederick County). Activities will include K-9, Specialized Equipment, Alcohol Enforcement Testing and Water Safety Demonstrations, Aircraft, Boat and Historical Displays. There will be fishing at the pond for children under 16 years of age. Barbequed food will be available to guests beginning at 12 noon. This event is free; however, pre-registration is required by calling 301-293-1940.

Chesapeake Forest Hunt Club Lottery
Must Apply by September 9th Four non-leased tracts of the Chesapeake Forest Lands in Somerset and Wicomico counties are currently available for hunt club leasing. Hunt clubs interested in obtaining a hunting lease agreement on these Chesapeake Forest tracts are invited to enter this lottery. Lottery forms from valid hunt clubs must be submitted by 4:00 pm on September 9th, with the lottery to be held on Friday, September 12th at 3:00 p.m. Rules, application form, lease rates and maps are available on the DNR website.
